When our ancient locally-famed hilltop Scots pine ‘The Lonely Tree’ fell to storms in 2014 we began hearing peoples memories and stories about the tree. A committee was formed to take as many of those tales, remembrances and photos as possible and put them into a book, raising funds to protect it in case it started regrowing, and for planting replacements.

I was tasked with the layout and coming up with a cover design.

I thought it would be good to take elements from those stories; a soldier leaving, a lost partner, a wedding proposal, and put them into the fabric of the tree itself.
