It was a challenging task to create this immersive map showing the Dee Valley from Chirk, through Llangollen, to Corwen in a three-dimensional, friendly way.
To make a map that shows the landscape of the valley in an engaging but clear format meant I had to visually flatten the Berwyn mountains in the foreground a little in order to reveal the valley.
Places of interest are highlighted with an illustration to give visitors an idea what they can see on the route. It also includes simplified rail, road, river and canal routes to show how the valley can be navigated.
This map was also later repurposed to show the newly-made Dee Valley Way walking trail – shown in white dots. For this map the heather, a familiar aspect of the valley, was emphasised and the map was cropped to show the trail.
