A commission from the National Trust for Chirk Castle in North Wales.
The client asked for the style to reflect the “spirit of place” of the property as well as making the shape of the hill and the castle’s position on top more obvious than in previous maps.
After discussing various styles we chose something with a hand-drawn feel and a light touch when it came to the colour. I drew the sketches by hand but moved to Photoshop for the line drawing and colouring.
You can see the progress of the map from the sketches through to pen, texture, shadow and colour :
The final map will be used on visitor signage and leaflets.
This is the final layout for the sign map with labels, icons, key and You Are Here marker:
I also produced a map of the gardens for Chirk Castle.
